An annual exhibition in Quebec city
The chain, as a physical object, is an integral part of everyday life. Available in diverse materials, mainly (but not only) metals, it can be decorative or functional, high end or industrial, it exists in many shapes, styles and scales.
The notion of “Unchained”, whether it is the symbolic exploration of finding freedom or becoming untethered or a direct exploration of the physical chain itself.

My response to the exhibition theme ...
'Unchained'
I use no actual chains
No 'chain' links in the materials that I have selected
No chains drawn into or welded onto the materials I have put together ...
So how can it qualify to be submitted ?
But ... My work does have chains ...
It is not chained to fashions or traditions of jewellery
It is not chained to commodity, the preciousness of metal, the preciousness of stone
They are chains of history, chains of adventure, chains of stories of what, where and how they arrived and have become what they are
These are the chains I want around my work ...
Not the chains that cost to the earth,
Not the chains that cost human lives, lives affected by chains of greed that keep them in poverty and others in wealth
The chains binding my work are adventure, stories imagined, the chains of ethical and environmental freedom ...
Aren't these the best chains ...?
