What is their name ?
2021
So you ask me what my work is about ...
you look at it with ...
interest ?
confusion ?
awe ?
distempt ?
love ?
It comes from ...
the earth,
It comes from ...
man's made things that he discards along the way.
I save these things that he throws away ... or worse still ...
just leaves in the environment ...
to decay,
to rust.
and ...
does he think ...
to disappear ?
... does he even think what is going to happen to these things that he no longer wants?
Things that were made many many years ago,
Things that have ...
a story ...
a history ...
Things that have ...
memories,
adventures,
voyages,
journeys.
They have had a life before I had them ...
They inhabited somewhere else ...
They were not as you see them now.
I noticed them,
I picked them up,
I thought that they were beautiful enough ...
and unique enough ...
to rescue.
I am inspired by them ...
I picked them from their resting place ...
I use them here as an equally important thing,
as the things that have been created from them.
I loved them enough ...
to make something new from them ...
to marvel at their beauty.
I loved them enough ...
to give them ...
a new adventure,
a new identity,
a new form,
a new life.
A new life that is ...
ready to have new stories ...
ready to have new adventures ...
ready to have new beginnings ...
and maybe even ...
ready enough ...
to have new endings.
They may not have been born here ...
but they live now in a Cornish world.
... and their names,
... and their identities
come from the Cornish world in which they live.
